THE PLAN
All great journeys begin with small steps. The first initiative will be to identify 15-25 adult learners within each partner county who will form the first group or ‘learning community’. This group will be selected by the local steering committees who will also work to identify tuition reimbursement funds to offset the costs involved in higher education.
The steering committees will work with advisors and admission counselors from MTSU and local community colleges to qualify the students based upon current academic achievements and goals; the educational partners will provide the necessary support to help students complete the required paperwork for admission to the programs. They will also provide help and encouragement through tutorials, individual advising, seminars, and other means. Face to face as well as electronic contact opportunities to meet with the needed academic advisors will be made available.
Once the initial learning community is established, ongoing support and guidance and advising will be provided to meet their continuing needs. The steering committees will continue to identify students and funding opportunities with the support of our educational partners who will aid in this activity by utilizing educational resources to develop marketing schemes and funding opportunities.
